Choices in Distributing High Definition (Hdmi)

The general direction of the description is the ready technologies, the standards that need to be applied to do installations and buyer Service. This is a general guide and there are many other aspects to consider, but hopefully, it helps to show you where careful notice needs to be when manufacture the decision to distribute High Definition and for you to get the right Hdmi law that will suit your needs completely.

Hdmi Versions:

Hdmi Tv

I do not want to bore with the technical. There are many separate Hdmi versions of Hdmi. They are: 1.1, 1.2, 1.2a, 1.3a, 1.3b, 1.3c and now 1.4. Just remember that South Africa is a late-comer to the high definition party. So what does that mean? Basically, when Hd Blu Ray and Hd Dstv were launched in Sa the Hdmi Version was 1.3b. Thus make sure all your tool is 1.3b, 1.3c or 1.4. Hdmi is backwards compatible with older versions of Hdmi.

Choices in Distributing High Definition (Hdmi)

Version 1.4 is the newest version and supports 3D Tv.

Hdmi Cables:

Hdmi cables are becoming one of the most base cables found in a household today. As Hd is a fairly new technology in South Africa there have been some misunderstandings that occurred with the South African Consumers. Firstly, there are many separate wire gauges and separate internal compositions. Don't worry about the compositions. Good ability copper cable will do the trick.

The important thing to remember is that an Hdmi Cable does not cost R 1000. The South African buyer has been mislead into reasoning that a R 1000 cable is good than a R 85 cable. This is not true, as the important thing to remember is longer Hdmi cables should use thicker wire. I personally propose and purchase gold platted 28 Awg Hdmi cables.

I have never had one that has failed and returned to me. The funny thing is that they look same to the Monster Hdmi cables.

Almost all Blu Ray and set top box manufacturers (Dstv Hd Pvr) contain Hdmi cables with the item and these are not suitable. These cables are of a lower grade and are fine for connecting directly to Hd Tvs if they are easily short (less than 1 meter). I have had to replace many of them in the past.

The only issue is that when it comes to distributing the signals to remote locations association issues do occur. So when purchasing a new Blu-ray just upgrade your Hdmi cable, but don't go overboard on what you pay for the Hdmi Cable. Distributing Hdmi signals with Hdmi Cables to many locations, like bedrooms and patios, is an issue as the Hdmi Connector is large and getting it though conduit is practically impossible. The second issue is that extending past a 10 meter distance may cause execution issues due to signal attenuation. This is why there are so many separate technologies offered to distribute to remote points.

Hdmi Splitters:

There are many separate types of Hdmi splitters and they come from various separate parts of the world. Hdmi Splitters split the signals in multiples of two. For example 1x2, 1x4, 1x8 and 1x16. This means that the splitter takes one Hd input and will split that input signal to 2, 4, 8 or 16 outputs. Households rarely use 1x8 and 1x16 splitters. These are the most base splitters that you will find.

New technologies have allowed for switches to be included in the splitters. Examples are: 5x2, 3x4 and 3x8 splitters. Note that these splitters are not Hdmi matrixes. They are just switch distribution amps. Meaning that you can only view one Hd input on one or many displays at any one time.

Hdmi Extenders:

Hdmi Extenders are the backbone of distributing to many locations. There are so many separate types and ranges it is practically impossible to distinguish between them. The most base you will find are the dual Cat5e extenders. These extenders work perfectly, but there are many issues that attribute to the execution of these extenders. One is the premise of these systems. I have been called out to many premise sites where the ability of the premise is the main presuppose for poor law performance, where a close second is the ability of the Utp (Cat) cable used. There are two types of dual Cat extenders, suitable extenders which distribute signals to 25 meters and super extenders up to 50 meters.

The benefit of using these types of extenders is that in the future one of the existing Cat cables (good quality) can be used to run the Hdmi signal and the other for Iptv and Home Video Networks.

Other extender options contain extending signals over one Cat cable (catone technology), costly at present, where the Hd signal is distributed over one Utp (Cat) Cable. Daily new Hd extender technology is released. Some of the new technologies on offer are fibre optic and coaxial extenders. These Hd extenders, in my opinion, are the technologies to use and watch out for.

One of the most new distribution techniques is distributing Hd over Ethernet (Ip) systems, I am not going to commentary much on this technology as I personally have not used or tested it, but I understanding that I would mention it. This is going to turn the distribution of Hd forever as I feel that all the video and audio technologies are keen towards Ip based systems.

Hdmi Matrix:

Hdmi Matrixes are the extreme in current Hdmi Technology. The flexibility of these systems is awesome. The most base of Hdmi matrixes are 4x4. This allows you to watch any full Hd source on any display in the system. Thus this unit manages which input is displayed at any one time. Newer Hdmi Matrixes have Cat6 boosted outputs and have extenders included in one unblemished package. These matrixes tend to be more costly as there is more processing involved. But for me, it is worth every penny spent. Hdmi Matrixes are more future proof than suitable splitters as when you need to add Hd sources at a later stage you can without further costs.

This also minimises the need for further items, such as Hdmi Switches, to add the Hd source into the distribution system.

Alternative to Hdmi:

Some installers are staying clear of Hdmi distribution systems as they may have had technical issues with these systems. Thus they opt for the distribution on component video (analogue Hd). Component video is fantastic, but the only real drawback is the cabling. Once you start distributing to more than one remote point it becomes a nightmare. This is because you need to have 5 cables (3 video 2 audio) at each point. It may be economy in some regards, but when you need to amplify the component video or put it into a matrix it tends to be pricy.

Choices Not Offered:

Now that we know what's out there, why is the buyer not offered the best solution? These technologies are not offered to the South African consumer. This allows the seller/installer to have carte blanch on the law without discussing it first with the client. This poses a bit of a problem for the South African buyer as they are not getting the right product for their requirements. This is a huge problem as this is not inspecting the future needs and will lead, in my opinion, to bad buyer service.

I have seen it so often where a law is thrown together and later the client needs to turn his/her law just to handle a new Tv or Hd Source. This leads to more costs involved. Thus the installers love it as this means more sales and more call outs but this, for me, just tarnishes the industry.

A fair warning is that there are some installers who charge by what car you drive and not your needs. So my advice is that you study and call around before accepting any quotations. Get a feel for what you need and you will save money in the future. A limited study into Hdmi distribution is not a huge effort. There are millions of forums and buyer write-ups on all the tool that is available. I am sure that Hd Football can wait a week. Be patient.

Hdmi Price Factors:

Hdmi tool varies in price dramatically. Thus it's important to know why. Main Factors that sway prices are: place of manufacture, video processor chips, and build quality. Place of invent is important as this will dictate how much assistance is ready to you.

For example, assistance turnaround times on repairs and post purchase service.

Most Hdmi tool distributors import their goods from China. It is important to remember that if something goes wrong with the equipment, this may in fact cost a lot more than you realise. The shortfall with buying this tool is that fix services are nonexistent, which is illegal in South Africa. This is why we have fix facilities at Fonet.

One other problem is build quality. I have found a few Chinese business that build great Hdmi products and others that do not and are rubbish.

A good point to remember is when you are shopping and are on a tight budget, ask where it is made. A good general rule is that Taiwan invent is great. The tool and build ability is excellent. Hdmi tool built in the Usa, is very costly but the build ability is good. One other factor to keep in mind is shipping from the Usa is extremely costly and this drives the tool cost up.

If the tool is assembled in China under licence, the ability control is fantastic.

Beware, I had an incident with an American enterprise a few months back. Their assistance was shocking. I was looking at one of their systems and wanted to know if I could buy some extra spares for backup assistance here in South Africa. The reply was "buy 2 systems, if something goes wrong then replace it with the spare". Keep in mind that I was sourcing tool for one big installation. I only required one unit. The unit cost 6000 Us, buying two was not an selection for "if something went wrong" and secondly I would make no money on the deal if I had bought two. Bad enterprise sense if you ask me.

As far as I am aware, and we do keep a close eye, there are three main manufacturers of the video chips. These are namely, explore Electronics (Taiwan), Maxim (Usa) and Sony (Japan). Try and find out what chips are being used, for assistance reasons, as some are easier to get hold of than others. These chips range in price from 80 rand (10 Usd) to about 150 rand (21 Usd). Maxim chips are the easiest chips to get hold of as they have representation in South Africa. explore chips have to be imported and we personally have not found a supply of Sony chips in South Africa or around the world.

Cat6 Cable:

This is one of the most important items to know about when you are reasoning about distributing Hd to remote points. The law margin of error free execution depends on it. I only propose Cat6 Cable. For the extra 1 or 2 rand per meter it's worth every cent. There are many grades of Utp cables. My brand preference is Lambda and Le Grand. Utp Cat6 Solid should range about R 4 to R 7 per meter.

This is where so many installers and distributors of Hdmi tool come short. They use Cat5e which for Hdmi is not great. It works but the law margin is bad, photograph drop outs and pink screens. Most of your problems can be solved with just using Cat6 cable (good quality). Installing extra Cat6 Cables is a great idea for future upgrades. It is even good to use Shielded Cat6 (Ftp) to avoid mains interference and if you are laying Cat6 cables outside.

A word of caution, this cable is very expensive. Expect to pay whatever from 15 - 35 rand per meter, depending on greed.

Best way to distribute Hd signals:

The best way to distribute Hd is "requirement based", contribution various solutions for the client's needs to ensure that all requirements are met and future upgrade paths are available. All systems eventually will be replaced but you can proof yourself for between 5-10 years. It's just good to get what you want now and avoid the fiddle later.

Short falls of Hdmi:

Sometimes I do not like Hdmi technology as there are a few invent issues. The first one is Hdcp (High-bandwidth Digital content Protection). This is there to stop recording on external recording devices. This causes handshake issues and can make life difficult. I have never had issues with Blu ray players, but with the Dstv Hd Pvr I have had many. I don't think that the Pvr manufacturers stick to the Hdmi invent Standards. The second issue is having power on the Hdmi. This makes it very susceptible to lightning.

The great thing is with fibre optic cable and coax cable the power element cannot be passed through, reducing lightning issues.

Lightning Protection:

Lightning security is imperative to have in any Hdmi system. There are two areas where the lightning can leak into the law is the mains (Ac) and on the Cat6 Cable. The best practice for security on the Ac mains it to use surge and lightning security units. The whole law needs to be protected. Thus all components such as Tv, Dstv decoder, Hdmi splitters and extenders must have protection.

The brands that I propose are Clearline and Apc. The only security on Cat6 Cables is using shielded cat6 cable. Lan lightning security does not work. The margin for errors is large as there are huge speed differences between Lan and Hdmi.

Recommendations:

1. Do some research, make some calls, speak to lots of separate people, get an idea of what budget to set on what you require.

2. I easily think that paying a limited extra will save you in the long run.

3. Proof yourself for the future as best you can.

4. All the time use Cat6 cable!

5. There are so many resources at your disposal use them and you will be laughing.

6. If you are unsure of premise quality, ask someone!!!

7. All the time ensure that you are protected against lightning.

High Definition Broadcast With Hdmi Cables

Hdmi cable is used for broadcasting the high definition video and audio stream on the multimedia devices. Hdmi (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is also used as an alternative to the old analog appropriate broadcasts. The interface of these cables is mostly used with the digital video and audio devices, which consist of the gaming consoles like Xbox 360 and Ps3. They can be also used for Blu-Ray players. Hdmi cables are also capable of supporting any type of major Tv or Pc video format and single cable interface.

One of the finest features of the Hdmi technology includes the full compatibility with the Digital Video Interface signal, which will eliminate the requirement of any type of conversion. The appropriate female Hdmi plug, which are basically found in high-end Tvs and he desktop computers have nineteen pins. The data signal, which is operated by the Hdmi, is of 10.2 Gbit/s with a 1600p video signal support. These cables are also capable of supporting even higher resolution videos. However, if you are planning to buy Hdmi cables, there are few foremost things, which you have to consider. It is also quite imperative to settle on the right ability cable for gain the most out of it.

Hdmi Tv

What to Know Before You purchase a High Definition Television

Almost all of the televisions on the store today offer a high definition (Hd) signal. Owning a high definition television (Hdtv) is a puny separate than owning a normal analog television. In many ways it is easier to set up a high def Tv and associate it to all of your peripherals. You do need to understand which channels broadcast high definition and which broadcast a normal signal. Unless you are signed up to a service that provides an Hd signal, most of the benefits of having a Hdtv will be pretty much wasted.

How High Def Changes normal Broadcasts

Hdmi Tv

A high definition Tv will make any photograph look best on your screen. Even if the photograph is not delivered in Hd, the images will be sharper and the colors will be brighter because of the built in Hd technology. normal broadcasts will still be fuzzier and less bright than broadcasts that are delivered using this type of signal. You may be a puny disappointed when you hook up your new high def Tv set and do not see an immediate inequity in your photograph quality. The clarity of the signal will have a great deal to do with how much the television can improve the picture. If you receive a grainy signal through your normal provider, the Hdtv will still display a grainy signal.

What to Know Before You purchase a High Definition Television

Finding High Definition Broadcasts

You can find out which channels broadcast in Hd by looking at your local broadcast schedule. The television channel will regularly display a extra symbol in the corner of the screen when it is being broadcasted in high definition. These broadcasts are on separate channels than the normal broadcast, so you will probably have a set of stations that are same to the normal broadcast channels at one end of the channel spectrum. Most Hd signals broadcast through cable or satellite providers. You may have to buy a separate viewing box to take advantage of the majority of the Hd stations that are available.

Setting the Screen Size

Screen size makes a big inequity in high definition viewing, especially if your screen is more than 15". The Hd channel will broadcast in a square format, regardless of the rectangular orientation of your screen. You can pick to stretch the image to fill the screen, which will distort the photograph a puny bit. You can also pick to view the photograph in a square with two bands of unused space on whether side of the picture.

When You Need an Hdmi Cable

When you buy a Hd television, you will probably consideration a display of Hdmi cables near the televisions. An Hdmi cable allows a high definition signal to be passed through peripheral devices so that it is displayed properly on the television. You should buy one of these cables if you plan to use a Dvd or BluRay player with your television. Hdmi cables also make it easier to hook up gaming systems that use high definition graphics. If you do not own any Hd items that plug into your television, an Hdmi cable is not necessary.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Hdmi (High Definition Multimedia Interface)

Benefits of Hdmi (high definition multimedia interface)

1. Business manufacturers like Hdmi because it uses a system of interfaces that stop media pirating. This system is called Hdcp (High-bandwidth Digital article Protection). This system works on encrypted (read copywrite) Dvd Video, Dvd Audio, Hd Dvd and Blu-ray Disc.

Hdmi Tv

Hdmi also carries both audio and video in one cable which will eventually allow manufacturers to have less connectors and just one accepted in/out interface.

Benefits and Drawbacks of Hdmi (High Definition Multimedia Interface)

2. Customers like Hdmi because there is less blurring in the relationship process. Just one cable connects the Dvd player to the receiver or television. Approximately anything that uses digital audio/visual, such as game consoles, Blu-ray players, Dvd players, etc. Can join together in this uncompressed (faster) format.

3. One other good basis for The Hdmi interface is Cec (Consumer Electronics Control) which allows a related expedient to control someone else related expedient when necessary. This is most determined when you can use the Tv remote to control all related devices.

Drawbacks: Hdmi (high definition multimedia interface)

1. Owners of older equipment may not have Hdmi interfaces. Instead they will have separate audio and video interfaces. These customers will need to do workarounds to adapt to Hdmi to their systems or buy new equipment. These workarounds could contain buying cables that have an Hdmi on one end and a Dvi (Digital Video Interface) on the other end to send video to a monitor or television using a Dvi connector. This would allow a user to send video from an Hdmi source to a Dvi receptor, even though it will not send the audio because Dvi does not maintain audio.

2. To send audio to a non-Hdmi audio/video component, the user will need to send it via former methods such as s/Pdif (Fiber Optics) or Rca cables.

3. Some blurring exists due to the numbering system on Hdmi connections. Starting with 1.0, the capabilities of Hdmi cables and Hdmi equipment varies. The accepted has moved up to Hdmi 1.4a which includes 3D and deep color. Each implementation of the Hdmi accepted in cables has a corresponding implementation in audio/visual equipment. If you are buying cables or equipment, make sure that the equipment matches the cables. Newer cables are backward compatible development it an easy selection - all the time go to the highest level (number) of cable. It may not help, but it won't hurt.

In summary, recite your audio visual system and see what connections work with your major pieces such as television, amplifier, disc players and cable/satellite connections. If you are buying new equipment, make sure the new equipment will work with the old equipment. Your Audio/Video system is like an eco system: change one thing and the rest will need to adjust. The most determined upgrade path may be with your television. Be sure a new Tv comes with Hdmi connectors as well as the older connectors primary to work with older amplifiers or disc players. The internet is a great place for quick facts on what you need.

Finally, you may want to consult with your reseller. Take a photograph of the back and front of all the equipment in your home theatre. Be sure that the connections are clear in the photograph. The reseller should be able to help you. But be faithful of price. A good Hdmi cable shouldn't cost more than about and a basic 1.4 cable should do all things you need, at the time of this writing, together with Ethernet. If the numbers go past 1.4, just get the highest number, they are backward compatible and don't cost much.

The electronics Business is now getting away form the use of numbers and advises customers to check the equipment they need to join together and match that to the cable they buy.

Don't get sucked into "giant" this or "future proof" that - it's just selling technique that could cost you a lot of unnecessary dollars. Even testers that take connections off and on test equipment rarely find any problems with the least expensive cables.

A Brief Introduction to High Definition Media Interfacing (Hdmi)

Hdmi is the acronym for High Definition Media Interface. Hdmi is the formula for connecting digital media devices (such as speakers, Tvs, Dvd players, and Stereos) into an integrated system. It is generally used for digital data in a high definition format, but can connect accepted formats too - in this way, relationship is potential in the middle of Hd ready and non Hd ready devices, and means that you do not need to purchase a whole new theory when using one Hd device, but build up full Hd over time.

Incidentally, Hd (High Definition) refers to digital data with a resolution of 720 or higher. Resolution refers to the number of pixels per unit; for optic displays, the unit is per quadrate inch, the more pixels per quadrate inch the greater the clarity of the picture.

Hdmi Tv

To transfer data from one device to another, for instance, your Tv and Dvd player, you need a cable. With an Hd system, we call these Hdmi cables. They are extremely popular because interfacing only requires one wire for both audio and optic information; in the past, each medium required a detach wire.

A Brief Introduction to High Definition Media Interfacing (Hdmi)

It is foremost to get a high capability wire because the signal that travels down the wire can lose capability as data communicates. A well-constructed cable loses limited of the former signal, whereas a poorly constructed cable may lose data to the degree that images and sounds distort beyond recognition. For this reason, it is foremost to pay a limited extra, to articulate signal integrity.

There are many dissimilar cables to choose from, arrival in a range of materials and lengths, but not all cables are equally good. Here we will reconsider which features you need from an Hdmi cable.

Length:
Length is the main notice when choosing your cable. You need to make sure that you purchase a cable that reaches comfortably in the middle of the devices you are connecting. It is no good purchasing a 1.5m cable when it needs to stretch from one side of a room to the other. However, cables that are longer than 1.8m need extra insulation, to ensure that data is not lost as the signal travels down the wire. When buying cables then, make sure it is the right length, and any cable over 1.8m must have supplementary shielding. Bear in mind that with more insulation, the cables also come to be more expensive, so expect to pay a limited more for cables greater than 1.8m (or 6').

Material:
Hdmi cables come in a range of materials, the most tasteless of which is copper. For everyday use, copper is fine and produces great capability and very limited degradation of signal. For those of you using your Hd tool for more sophisticated ventures, such as creating music, you may wish to purchase gold or silver plated cables; these will improve capability of the signal a little, but moreover, are durable and long lasting, meaning that cables do not come to be corrupt over time to the extent that copper cables may.
